Innovation Through Trauma

When Marlize Holtzhausen’s sister was kidnapped, help arrived too late to prevent her brutal attack. Determined that no other family should go through the same trauma, Marlize started building an app that turns your cellphone into a live mobile panic button, putting the power back in the hands of the victim.

Strategic Partnerships

Partnering with a local security giant, BidVest Protea Coin, and ER24 has given Marlize and Response24 the power to make a serious difference in the lives of more South Africans. An investment from Caxton has provided the strategic partnership that the business needs to take it to the next level.

Meet CEO, Marlize Holtzhausen: the passionate entrepreneur who founded Response24.

After her sister was brutally attacked, Marlize felt driven to act and find a solution that could prevent or reduce the impact of traumatic experiences for victims of crime.

Using her extensive experience in the cellular network and communications industry, Marlize began formulating a business plan that would turn a mobile phone into a panic button that could summon help to your exact location without relying on explaining to someone where you are or waiting for the next available operator.

She explains: “In a country with so many different languages, that issue is multiplied. So, I set out to develop a system that would allow people to get the help they needed, fast, by cutting out the human dynamic of the call centre.”

This simple innovation shaves critical minutes off of response times and gives users the best possible chance for a positive outcome.

Through Resonse24, Marlize wants to give everyday South Africans the security of knowing that, in the event of an emergency, they carry the power in their pockets to make every second count in their favour.
